A truly groundbreaking debut, this entry focuses on the self-titled album from Japanese hard rock legends, Earthshaker. Released on June 21, 1983, via the Nexus label (King Records), this 12-inch vinyl LP (catalog number K28P 361) marks a cornerstone in Japanese heavy metal history. This copy includes the original obi strip.

Produced by the influential Masa Itoh, this album immediately established Earthshaker as a major force. It kicks off with their iconic, self-titled anthem, “Earthshaker,” a track considered one of the all-time greats in J-Metal, and continues with a parade of signature songs like “Wall,” “Marionette,” and the catchy closer “夢の果てを” (Yume No Hate O).

The album perfectly captured the band’s signature sound right from the start: a powerful blend of hard rock and heavy metal, defined by skillful, melodic guitar work and, crucially, large-scale, powerful vocals that gave them a presence far beyond that of a typical debut band.

Significantly, the album also garnered attention for its inclusion of the track “Dark Angel (Animals),” a song provided by members of Iron Maiden (penned by Adrian Smith), showcasing producer Masa Itoh’s international connections. “Earthshaker” (the album) was immensely influential, inspiring countless copy bands and remaining a shocking, powerful listen for fans to this day. This initial limited pressing also came with a 4-page insert and a color poster, noted on the obi.
