Focusing on a special release from Japanese heavy metal stalwarts Anthem, this is their 1985 mini-album, “Ready To Ride.” Released on the Nexus label (King Records) with catalog number K20P593, this 12-inch vinyl was issued as a limited edition pressing on red translucent wax and retains its original obisticker on the cover.

Issued on December 18, 1985, this 33 ⅓ RPM EP arrived between their explosive self-titled debut and their sophomore album, “Tightrope.” It’s notable as Anthem’s first self-produced mini-album, capturing the band’s raw energy and signature sound during their formative years.

The EP offers a potent mix across its five tracks. Side A features two new, high-speed compositions driven by guitarist Hiroya Fukuda’s writing (“Ready To Ride,” “Shed”), showcasing the band’s signature blend of power and melody. Side B presents English language versions of three fan-favorite tracks from their debut album (“Steeler,” “Rock’n Roll Stars,” “Lay Down”), offering a different take on their classic material.

K20P593 captures the classic early lineup in peak form, delivering pure, high-energy heavy metal with youthful exuberance. “Ready To Ride” is considered a highlight of their early discography, essential for fans seeking the raw power and skillful songwriting of prime Anthem. The limited red vinyl pressing, complete with its included band poster and lyric sheet, makes it a highly sought-after collector’s item.
