Welcoming the Apocalypse: Seikima-II’s ‘The End Of The Century’ (15AH2017)

Today we explore the first full-length studio album (or “Large Scripture”) from Japan’s unique demonic heavy metal emissaries, Seikima-II (聖飢魔II). This is “The End Of The Century,” released on the Fitzbeat label (CBS/Sony) with the catalog number 15AH2017.

Issued on April 2, 1986, this 12-inch vinyl LP followed their explosive 1985 debut mini-album, “Akuma ga Kitarite Heavy Metal.” “The End Of The Century” expanded upon their initial impact, offering a complete album’s worth of their signature sound and elaborate demonic concept. It features the early lineup delivering powerful, traditional heavy metal.

The album fully establishes the core elements of Seikima-II: blistering twin-guitar riffs and solos, a driving and heavy rhythm section, and the unmistakable, operatic-tinged vocals of frontman Demon Kogure, delivering lyrics steeped in demonic lore, horror, and social commentary, all wrapped in a theatrical presentation. It contains many tracks that became foundational to their live shows and overall mythology.

15AH2017 is a cornerstone of Seikima-II’s vast discography and a classic of 80s Japanese heavy metal. It represents the band solidifying their unique identity and unleashing their demonic power in full album format for the first time. For fans (“believers”) and collectors, “The End Of The Century” remains an absolutely essential document of the band’s early reign.
