A fascinating release from the extended 80s J-Metal scene is the focus today: the 1984 debut album from rock singer Miyuki Hashimoto, “One Night Angel.” Released on the Alfa label with the catalog number ALR-28064, this 12-inch vinyl LP is far more than a typical debut. This particular copy includes the original obi strip.

This album is, in essence, a hidden 44 Magnum record. It was completely backed, produced, arranged, and largely written by the members of the legendary heavy metal band 44 Magnum, who also perform all the instruments.

The album features co-production from vocalist Tatsuya “Paul” Umehara and keyboardist Takanobu Masuda (who frequently collaborated with the band). The music is performed by the classic lineup: Satoshi “Jimmy” Hirose on guitar, Hironori “Ban” Yoshikawa on bass, and Satoshi “Joe” Miyawaki on drums, with Masuda on keyboards. The 44 Magnum members are also credited with writing most of the music and some of the lyrics.

The result is the signature, high-energy heavy metal and hard rock sound of 44 Magnum, but fronted by Miyuki Hashimoto’s vocals. While some fans have noted that Hashimoto’s vocal style might be considered a bit “weak” for the powerful rock backing, the album is prized by collectors.

“One Night Angel” (ALR-28064) stands as a unique opportunity to hear the full 44 Magnum lineup performing a complete album of their material with a different singer. It’s an essential item for dedicated fans of the band and a fascinating snapshot of the scene’s collaborative nature.
