A highly anticipated and landmark album from Japanese rock legends X is the focus for this entry. We are looking at their second major studio album, “Jealousy,” released on July 1, 1991. This CD was issued on the Siren Song label (Sony Records) with the catalog number SRCL-2001. This particular copy includes the original obi strip.
Arriving two years after their breakthrough major debut “Blue Blood,” “Jealousy” was met with massive anticipation. It captures the classic lineup of Toshi (vocals), hide (guitar), Pata (guitar), Taiji (bass), and Yoshiki (drums, piano) at a commercial and creative peak.
The 10-track album is a “deluxe edition” of everything X was known for. It features a wide variety of styles, from their signature, ultra-high-speed power metal anthems like the opener “Silent Jealousy,” to 70s-influenced hard rock tracks like “Desperate Angel” and “Joker,” and epic, sweeping ballads like “Voiceless Screaming” and the closing “Say Anything.”
Fans noted that despite the diversity, every song is unmistakably “X” – defined by a catchy, almost “narcissistic” (in the best way) flair and high-level musicianship. “Jealousy” is also historically significant as it was the final studio album to feature the incredible talents of bassist Taiji.
SRCL-2001 stands as a monumental work in Japanese rock, capturing X at the zenith of their classic era.
