A Time for Change: Seikima-II’s ‘Big Time Changes’ (28AH2264)

Seikima-II’s fourth major studio album (or “Large Scripture”), “Big Time Changes,” arrived in 1987 on the CBS/Sony label, carrying the catalog number 28AH2264. This 12-inch vinyl LP marked a crucial turning point for the theatrical heavy metal band. Most significantly, it solidified the classic lineup with the formal introduction of guitarist Sgt. Luke Takamura III and bassist Xenon Ishikawa, joining Demon Kogure (vocals), Ace Shimizu (guitar), and Raiden Yuzawa (drums).

Produced by the band themselves, “Big Time Changes” showcased an evolution in their sound. While retaining the powerful heavy metal core and Demon Kogure’s distinctive operatic vocals that defined their early work, this album integrated more refined melodic hard rock elements and sophisticated arrangements. It demonstrated the musical growth spurred by the new lineup, featuring tracks that became essential parts of their demonic repertoire while maintaining their unique conceptual framework. 28AH2264 is a key album, capturing the successful integration of new members and setting the stage for Seikima-II’s continued evolution and success.
