A major international release from Japanese metal legends Loudness is the focus today: their 1987 studio album, “Hurricane Eyes.” This entry highlights the US vinyl pressing released by ATCO Records, carrying the catalog number 7 90619-1.

Issued on August 10, 1987, this 12-inch LP was the English-language version of the album, specifically produced for the American and international markets (a separate Japanese-language version was released in Japan). The album was famously produced by the legendary Eddie Kramer (with Andy Johns handling the track “S.D.I.”) and mastered by Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound.

Recorded across various high-end studios in Tokyo, Los Angeles, and New York, the album features the classic Loudness lineup: Minoru Niihara (vocals), Akira Takasaki (guitar), Masayoshi Yamashita (bass), and Munetaka Higuchi (drums). It also boasts guest contributions from keyboardist Gregg Giuffria and backing vocals/lyric help from David Glen Eisley.

“Hurricane Eyes” (790 619-1) showcases the band’s polished, powerful heavy metal sound, tailored for a global audience. It’s packed with high-energy anthems and melodic hard rock, including iconic tracks like the opener “S.D.I.,” “This Lonely Heart,” “Rock ’N Roll Gypsy,” and “So Lonely.” It stands as a key document of Loudness’ peak international era and their ambitious pursuit of the world stage.
