Let’s focus on the second album from the legendary Japanese heavy metal band Bronx, “Illusion Of Mr. Morphine” (ミスター・モーフィンの幻想). Released on February 25, 1986, via the Polydor label, this 12-inch vinyl LP (catalog number 28MX 1233) captures the band, led by “Jet Finger” guitarist Atsushi Yokozeki, evolving their sound. This particular copy includes the original obi strip.

Co-produced by Yokozeki and Keisuke Tsukimitsu, this sophomore effort is often considered by fans to be a significant step up in songwriting and sophistication compared to their debut. While the band’s mysterious worldview was a feature, the songs themselves, like “Night Rider,” “Final Nuclear Winter,” and “Crash Fighter,” are praised as high-quality heavy metal compositions.

Of course, Yokozeki’s stunning guitar work is a main draw, with his technical solos and skillful backing riffs shining brightly. However, some listeners have noted that the vocals could be a weak point. The release was notable for including not just an obi and lyric insert, but also a bonus guitar score for the track “Crash Fighter,” a direct nod to the guitarist’s celebrated talent. 28MX 1233 remains an essential document of Yokozeki’s early band career.
