Here’s a spotlight on the debut album from the legendary Japanese heavy metal band Bronx, “Easter” (魔帝聖還). Released on July 25, 1985, via the Polydor label, this 12-inch vinyl LP (catalog number 28MX1214) marked the arrival of a highly anticipated group. This particular copy includes the original obi strip.
“Easter” holds a crucial place in J-Metal history as it was the first band led by the “solitary guitarist” Atsushi Yokozeki. Already known for his “Jet Finger” super-technique and his session work supporting vocalists like Misako Honjoh and Megumi Hayakawa, Yokozeki formed Bronx to showcase his own musical vision.
Co-produced by Keisuke Tsukimitsu (Gekko) and Bronx, the album delivers a potent dose of 80s heavy metal across its tracks, including “Dead Low,” “Look Out!,” “Africa,” and “Heating Bronx.” It perfectly captures Yokozeki’s virtuosic guitar playing within a full band context, backed by a strong lineup. The band’s debut concert famously took place at the prestigious Nakano Sun Plaza.
28MX1214 stands as the essential debut from one of Japan’s most respected guitar heroes. The original release came complete with an obi strip and a fold-open insert that could be used as a poster, making it a fantastic collector’s item from the peak of the J-Metal era.
