A masterpiece from the Sapporo metal scene is the focus today: the debut full-length album from Eliza, “Something Like Hot.” Released in March 1988 on the independent Fasten Up Records label (catalog number FASTEN-010), this 12-inch vinyl LP captures a legendary Hokkaido band at their peak.

Following a series of singles, this album marked Eliza’s first full-length statement as a four-piece band. It is widely regarded as a masterpiece of 80s Japanese heavy metal, perfectly encapsulating the orthodox J-Metal sound and proving that the Sapporo scene rivaled the output of Tokyo or Kansai.

Produced with a raw, independent energy, the album is celebrated by fans for having no “filler” tracks. It delivers a powerful, high-quality heavy metal assault defined by solid, melodic guitar solos, tight, driving rhythms, and impressive high-pitch, high-range vocals delivered entirely in Japanese.

“Something Like Hot” features classic tracks like the single “Fast As Lightning,” “Too Wild, To Tame,” and “Let It Rock,” all of which showcase the band’s technical skill and strong songwriting. As an independent release, it originally came with a two-sided lyric insert but was never issued with an obi strip. It remains an indispensable and intense LP for collectors and fans of classic Japanese metal.
