A powerful comeback from Japanese neo-classical guitar hero Katsu Ohta’s band, Ark Storm, is the focus for this entry. We are looking at “Voyage Of The Rage,” released on February 14, 2018, via the Nexus label (King Records) with the catalog number KICS 3672. This particular copy includes the original obi strip.

This CD marked the highly anticipated return of Ark Storm after a 13-year gap, launching the “Phase 3” lineup of the band. To create the ultimate neo-classical metal album, Ohta, who handles all guitars, bass, compositions, and production, enlisted a world-class lineup.

Most notably, the album features the legendary international vocalist Mark Boals (known for his work with Yngwie Malmsteen and Royal Hunt). His powerful, soaring vocals perfectly complement Ohta’s intricate, high-speed guitar work. The lineup is completed by keyboardist Yuhki and drummer Ichiro “VAL” Nagai.

Fans praise “Voyage Of The Rage” as a masterpiece, reaching a new level of perfection. While Ohta’s playing is often compared to Yngwie Malmsteen, his songwriting is noted for its unique, Japanese melodic sense and baroque stylistic flair. The chemical reaction between Ohta’s compositions and Boals’ vocals creates an ideal fusion, drawing comparisons to the awe-inspiring feeling of hearing Loudness’ “Soldier of Fortune” for the first time.

Featuring powerful tracks like “Glory Forever,” “Ablaze,” and the instrumental title track, KICS 3672 is a must-hear album for all fans of orthodox, high-quality heavy and neo-classical metal.
