Eye of the Storm: Loudness’ ‘Hurricane Eyes’ English Version (P-13595)
Today we revisit Japanese metal legends Loudness and their pivotal 1987 album, “Hurricane Eyes.” This entry focuses specifically on the vinyl pressing released in Japan by Warner-Pioneer Corporation with the catalog number P-13595 with obisticker.
While the Japanese market also received a version sung entirely in Japanese (P-13540, produced by Eddie Kramer), this particular release, P-13595, features the English language vocal tracks, primarily aimed at the international market. This English version was produced by the renowned producer Neil Kernon (known for his work with Dokken, Queensrÿche, etc.), giving it a distinct sound geared towards Western audiences compared to its Japanese counterpart.
The album showcases the classic Loudness lineup: Minoru Niihara delivering powerful vocals (in English here), Akira Takasaki’s breathtaking guitar mastery, Masayoshi Yamashita’s rock-solid bass, and Munetaka Higuchi’s dynamic drumming. Neil Kernon’s production provides a polished, powerful, and radio-friendly edge to the band’s potent heavy metal sound. The album features the English versions of iconic tracks from this era, such as “S.D.I.” and “This Lonely Heart.”
P-13595 is a crucial release for fans and collectors. It represents the internationally focused version of a high point in Loudness’ 80s output, showcasing their world-class musicianship with production tailored for global success. It stands alongside its Japanese counterpart as a testament to the band’s ambition and talent during their peak international period.
