The Power Solidified: Mari Hamada’s ‘Misty Lady’ (VIH-28175)

Today’s focus is on the third studio album from Japan’s queen of heavy metal, Mari Hamada. We are looking at her powerful 1984 release, “Misty Lady,” issued on the Invitation label (Victor) with the catalog number VIH-28175 with obi.

Released on June 21, 1984, this 12-inch vinyl LP arrived hot on the heels of her first two albums, “Lunatic Doll” and “Romantic Night,” completing a rapid-fire trilogy that firmly established her as a major force in the J-Metal scene. “Misty Lady” continued the successful formula of its predecessors, once again benefiting from the powerful production of Munetaka Higuchi, the legendary drummer of Loudness.

This album further solidified Hamada’s signature sound: a potent blend of traditional heavy metal power, strong melodic sensibilities, and her exceptional, soaring vocal range. Higuchi’s production ensured a driving, heavy sound featuring prominent kenji kitajima’s guitar works, a thunderous rhythm section, and arrangements perfectly suited for Hamada’s dynamic voice. “Misty Lady” delivered another collection of high-energy heavy metal anthems that became fan favorites.

VIH-28175 stands as a cornerstone of Mari Hamada’s early career and a classic of the 80s J-Metal era. It captures her immense talent solidifying, delivering pure, high-quality heavy metal produced by one of the scene’s most iconic figures.
