Solidifying the Melodic Metal Sound: Earthshaker’s ‘FUGITIVE’ (K28P-432)
Today we revisit a crucial early album from Japanese hard rock giants Earthshaker, their second studio effort, “FUGITIVE”. This entry focuses on the 12-inch vinyl LP released on the Nexus label (King Records) with the catalog number K28P-432 with obi.
Hitting the shelves in March 1984, “FUGITIVE” demonstrated Earthshaker’s incredible work ethic, arriving less than a year after their powerful self-titled debut. This album wasn’t just a quick follow-up; it was a significant step in defining the band’s signature style. While the debut showcased their raw potential, “FUGITIVE” saw them masterfully blend heavy metal power with the distinctly emotional and memorable melodies that would become their hallmark.
The album delivers a potent collection of tracks characterized by soaring, heartfelt vocals, intricate and expressive guitar solos contrasted with driving riffs, and a rock-solid rhythm section. It cemented the “melodious hard rock” sound that resonated deeply within the Japanese market and distinguished Earthshaker within the burgeoning J-Metal scene.
K28P-432 captures a band rapidly maturing and hitting its creative stride. “FUGITIVE” remains a landmark album, essential for understanding the development of Earthshaker’s sound and the evolution of melodic heavy metal in Japan during the pivotal early 1980s.
