On the Run to Stardom: Earthshaker’s Classic ‘FUGITIVE’ (K28P-432)
Today, we focus on a significant early work from one of the leading bands in the Japanese hard rock scene, Earthshaker. We are looking at their second studio album, “FUGITIVE,” released on the Nexus label (King Records) as a 12-inch LP with the catalog number K28P-432 with obi.
Released in March 1984, this album arrived remarkably quickly – just nine months after their impactful debut. “FUGITIVE” is highly regarded for building upon the momentum of their first release while further solidifying Earthshaker’s unique “melodious hard rock” style.
The album features songs brilliantly fusing their trademark catchy, often melancholic melody lines, emotional guitar work, and a powerful rhythm section. The sound established on this work influenced many subsequent bands and played a key role in the development of the Japanese heavy metal scene.
K28P-432 captures the energy of Earthshaker during their transition to becoming a top band, condensing their developing musical identity into one record. As a work symbolizing the “naki” (crying/emotional) melodies characteristic of 80s J-Metal, it remains a beloved masterpiece for many fans and an important item for collectors.
