A significant debut from the Japanese indie rock scene is the focus for this entry: “Glamourous & Dangerous” by G.D. Flickers. Released on October 21, 1987, via the influential Captain Records, this 12-inch mini-album (catalog number CAP-0065-M) served as the band’s first major statement on the label.
This 6-track, 45 RPM vinyl captures the band’s signature blend of glam, hard rock, and punk aesthetics. The album is notable for its high-profile producer, Shinichi Fujinuma (of the legendary punk band Anarchy/The Roosters), who also receives a track dedication (“Dranken Rock ’N Roller”).
Recorded at Mod Studio, the album showcases their raw, stylish energy across tracks like “Against The Wind,” “To City Kids,” and “Down-Town Shadow.” It also features an impressive list of guests from the Tokyo underground scene, including Maki Nomiya (who would later front Pizzicato Five) contributing chorus vocals and Fujinuma himself on slide guitar.
CAP-0065-M is an essential document of the late 80s Japanese glam/punk scene, capturing the debut of G.D. Flickers with significant industry backing and a unique, collaborative spirit.
