Let’s focus on a key release from the Japanese glam/indie rock scene: the 12-inch mini-album “Some Girls” by G.D. Flickers. Released on March 21, 1988, via the influential independent label Captain Records, this vinyl carries the catalog number CAP-0078-M.
This record served as the band’s second 12-inch release on Captain Records, following “Glamourous & Dangerous” (1987). “Some Girls” showcases the band’s signature blend of glam, new wave, and hard rock aesthetics. It features a unique format: Side A plays at 33 ⅓ RPM, while the single track on Side B plays at 45 RPM.
Recorded and mixed at Mod Studio in Tokyo in February 1988, the EP captures the band’s raw, stylish energy across its four tracks:
A1: Pink-Hip-Girl
A2: Sensational-Girl
A3: Lovely-Girl
B1: Sensational-Girl (Great Rock ‘n’ Roll Swindle Version)
This release features the band’s core lineup of the era, delivering their distinctive sound. For collectors, CAP-0078-M is an essential snapshot of the vibrant late 80s Japanese independent rock scene, documenting G.D. Flickers (a band originally formed by a future ZIGGY member) solidifying their style. The original release came with a booklet.
