A special release from Japanese heavy metal titans Loudness, connecting them directly to the world of anime, is the focus for this entry. We are looking at their 12-inch single “Gotta Fight,” released on June 21, 1985, via the Columbia label (Nippon Columbia) with the catalog number AY-7401. This particular copy retains its original outer shrinkwrap with the obisticker.

This 45 RPM 12-inch single holds a unique place in the Loudness discography as it features music from the original soundtrack of the anime film “Odin: Photon Sailer Starlight.” Produced by Loudness themselves, the single showcases their signature, powerful heavy metal sound, perfectly suited for a science fiction epic.

The single features three tracks:
A1: Gotta Fight
B1: Odin
B2: Flash Out

The A-side delivers the powerful title anthem, “Gotta Fight,” which served as a theme for the movie, featuring the classic lineup’s fiery energy. The B-side offers “Odin,” another track tied to the film, and the instrumental “Flash Out,” which showcases Akira Takasaki’s guitar prowess. The tracks also feature keyboard contributions from Masanori Sasaji, adding to the atmospheric sound.

AY-7401 is a fantastic item for collectors, representing a unique crossover moment for Loudness during their peak era. It links their world-conquering heavy metal sound directly to the popular culture phenomenon of anime via official theme songs on a high-quality 12-inch vinyl format.
