Return to the Stage: PRESENCE’s ’Rock’n Roll’ 12-Inch Single (K13P703)
Today we revisit the classic Japanese heavy metal band PRESENCE, focusing on their 12-inch single, “Rock’n Roll,” released with the catalog number K13P703, promo/sample pressing with obi.
Issued in 1987 on the Nexus label (King Records), this vinyl release is a 45 RPM 12-inch single, offering enhanced sound quality for its three tracks. Released in the same pivotal year as their self-titled debut album, this single served to further promote the band’s polished and powerful melodic heavy metal sound.
The A-side features the anthemic title track, “Rock’n Roll,” a perfect example of the band’s style, combining catchy, driving riffs with Shigeru “SHIGERU” Nishikawa’s soaring vocals and Kazuhide “RUDY” Shirata’s virtuosic guitar work. The A-side is completed by the energetic “One Shot Prize.”
The B-side contains the track “Lucy,” providing fans with another example of the band’s blend of hard rock energy and strong melodic sensibilities, featuring the solid rhythm section of Kaito “RADY” Onda (bass) and Hiroaki “HIBARI” Okamoto (drums).
K13P703 is a potent snapshot of PRESENCE during their debut year, offering a high-fidelity presentation of key tracks that helped establish them as a major force in the 80s J-Metal scene. It’s a fantastic collector’s item representing the band at the height of their initial impact.
