Unveiling the Spectacle: Show-Ya’s Debut ‘Masquerade Show’ (WTP-90351)

Today’s entry marks the powerful arrival of one of Japan’s most successful and enduring all-female hard rock bands, Show-Ya. We are spotlighting their debut studio album, “Masquerade Show,” released with the catalog number WTP-90351.

Issued on September 5, 1985, via the Eastworld label (Toshiba EMI), this 12-inch vinyl LP was the world’s introduction to Show-Ya’s potent blend of hard rock and heavy metal. The band, consisting of Keiko Terada on powerful lead vocals, Miki “sun-go” Igarashi on lead guitar, Miki “mittan” Nakamura on keyboards, Satomi Senba on bass, and Miki “captain” Tsunoda on drums, burst onto the male-dominated scene with undeniable talent and attitude.

Produced by the renowned Masanori Sasaji (who also handled arrangements and keyboards), “Masquerade Show” features a polished yet energetic sound. It established the core elements that would define Show-Ya: Terada’s commanding vocals, Igarashi’s skillful guitar riffs and solos, Nakamura’s keyboard textures adding depth, and a tight, driving rhythm section. Tracks like the opening title song “Masquerade,” “Trouble Maker,” and “Silent Vision” immediately showcased their ability to craft memorable hard rock anthems.

WTP-90351 is a landmark debut, launching the career of a band that would become hugely influential. “Masquerade Show” captured their early energy and musical prowess, laying the foundation for their rise to stardom within the Japanese rock and metal landscape. It remains an essential listen for fans of the genre.
