Trigger Warning: Misako Honjoh’s 1984 Album ‘Trigger’ (CI-21)
Continuing our exploration of pioneering Japanese metal vocalist Misako Honjoh’s discography, today we focus on her 1984 album “Trigger,” released with the catalog number CI-21 with obi.
This 12-inch vinyl LP, issued on the Continental label (Teichiku Records), marks her sixth studio album. Released in 1984, “Trigger” followed albums like ‘The Cruiser’ and ‘Trampling Down,’ placing it firmly within the period where Honjoh was evolving her sound beyond the pure heavy metal of her earliest “Witch Trilogy.”
While still rooted in hard rock and heavy metal, albums from this era often saw Honjoh incorporating more melodic elements, potentially touching on AOR or more mainstream rock sounds, while still featuring powerful instrumentation and strong guitar work, often provided by notable guest musicians. “Trigger” likely continues this trend, showcasing her powerful vocals against a backdrop of expertly played, energetic rock.
CI-21 is another important piece in understanding the musical journey of one of Japan’s first prominent female heavy metal singers. It captures her during a productive and stylistically evolving period, offering high-quality 80s hard rock for fans and collectors of the genre.
