Full Throttle Metal: Anthem’s ‘Ready To Ride’ EP (K20P593)
Today’s spotlight turns to another giant of Japanese heavy metal, Anthem. We are focusing on their 12-inch vinyl EP/mini-album titled “Ready To Ride,” released with the catalog number K20P593, red wax vinyl.
Issued in 1985 on the Nexus label (King Records), this release captures Anthem during their explosive early period. Formed in the early 80s and led by bassist Naoto Shibata, Anthem quickly established themselves as one of Japan’s premier traditional heavy metal bands, known for their powerful riffs, high-energy performances, and soaring vocals.
“Ready To Ride” arrived hot on the heels of their self-titled debut album, also released in 1985. This EP served to maintain their momentum, likely featuring a mix of new studio tracks and possibly live recordings, showcasing the classic early lineup with Eizo Sakamoto on vocals and Hiroya Fukuda on guitar.
Expect pure, unadulterated heavy metal energy from this release. The title track itself suggests speed and power, characteristic of Anthem’s style. This EP would have delivered driving rhythms, powerful twin-guitar harmonies (if applicable to the specific tracks), Sakamoto’s commanding vocals, and Shibata’s signature galloping basslines.
K20P593 is an essential piece for fans of Anthem’s classic era and collectors of 80s Japanese metal. It’s a concentrated blast of pure heavy metal from a band hitting its stride and solidifying its legendary status.
