Let’s focus on the Japanese domestic release of Loudness’ pivotal 1987 album, “Hurricane Eyes.” This entry highlights the Japanese-language version, released on the ATCO Records label (Warner-Pioneer Corporation) with the catalog number P-13540. This particular copy includes the original obi strip.

Issued on August 10, 1987, this 12-inch vinyl LP is the counterpart to the English-language version released internationally (which had different production and mixes). This domestic Japanese release (P-13540) features vocalist Minoru Niihara singing entirely in Japanese.

This version was famously produced by the legendary Eddie Kramer (known for his work with Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin) (with Andy Johns producing “S.D.I.”). This gives the album a distinct sonic character, often described by fans as warmer or more 70s-influenced compared to the English mix, and it places Niihara’s vocals prominently. The album was recorded across multiple high-end studios in Tokyo, Los Angeles, and New York, and mastered by Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound.

“Hurricane Eyes” is considered by many fans to be a masterpiece and a high point of the classic lineup’s career, showcasing a wide variety of excellent songs, flawless performances, and perhaps a more mature sound. It features the Japanese-language versions of iconic tracks like “S.D.I.,” “This Lonely Heart” (titled “So Lonely” here), and “Rock ’N Roll Gypsy.”

P-13540 is an essential release for fans and collectors, offering the unique, Japanese-language listening experience of one of Loudness’ most celebrated albums, helmed by a legendary rock producer. The release came packaged with an obi and a lyrics sheet.
