US Power Metal Roots: Virgin Steele’s ‘Guardians Of The Flame’ Reissue
Today’s entry looks back at a foundational slab of American heavy metal. We are examining the 2018 Limited Edition reissue of Guardians Of The Flame by Virgin Steele, released by the respected Greek label No Remorse Records (Barcode: 0744430522168).
The DeFeis & Starr Era
Originally released in 1983, this was the band’s second studio album and one of the last to feature original guitarist Jack Starr alongside vocalist/keyboardist David DeFeis. It is a crucial document of early US Power Metal, blending raw, traditional heavy metal with the epic, theatrical elements that would later define the band’s sound.
Key Tracks: The album features the ambitious epic “The Redeemer,” the driving anthem “Metal City,” and the thunderous title track “Guardians Of The Flame.” Production: Produced by DeFeis himself, the album captures the hunger and energy of the New York metal scene in the early 80s.No Remorse Reissue
This 2018 pressing comes from No Remorse Records, a Greek label renowned among collectors for their high-quality treatments of classic metal albums.
- Format: Pressed on classic Black Vinyl.
- Status: It is a Limited Edition release, bringing this long-out-of-print classic back to turntables with restored artwork and sound.
It is an essential piece for fans of 80s traditional metal and the origins of the US power metal sound.
