Chicago Sludge Fury: These Beasts’ Self-Titled EP on Bronze Smoke (MER-065)

Today’s entry features the heavy, sludge-laden sounds of the Chicago-based trio. We are looking at the 2019 Limited Edition vinyl release of the self-titled EP These Beasts, issued by Magnetic Eye Records with the catalog number MER-065.

Crushing Riffs and Parker Production

Released on March 29, 2019, this 6-track EP is a masterclass in atmospheric heavy rock. Blending elements of stoner, doom, and noise rock, the band delivers crushing riffs and raw emotion on tracks like “End Of The Whip” and “Shovel And Pick.” The production pedigree is outstanding for a debut: the record was produced, engineered, and mixed by the legendary Sanford Parker (known for his work with Yob, Pelican, and Eyehategod) at Decade Music Studios. Mastered by Collin Jordan, the sound is thick, abrasive, and incredibly powerful.

Limited “Bronze Smoke” Edition

This release is designed for both audiophiles and collectors:

- 45 RPM Audio: Presented on a 12-inch disc running at 45 RPM, this pressing ensures maximum audio fidelity and dynamic punch for the heavy instrumentation.
- Bronze Smoke Vinyl: The record is pressed on a unique Bronze Smoke colored vinyl, perfectly matching the gritty aesthetic of the music.
- Collector’s Packaging: A thoughtful detail for collectors is that both the hype sticker and the barcode sticker are attached to the outer plastic cover rather than the jacket itself. This keeps the striking cover artwork by Alla Ya clean and unobstructed.
