Megadeth Alumni Unite: Kings Of Thrash ‘Best Of The West’ Gold Vinyl (CLO3861)
Today’s entry captures a historic reunion of thrash metal royalty. We are examining the 2023 Limited Edition double LP Best Of The West…The Mega Years – Live At The Whisky A Go Go by Kings Of Thrash, released on Cleopatra Records with the catalog number CLO3861.
A Celebration of the “Mega Years”
Recorded live at the legendary Whisky A Go Go in Los Angeles on October 15, 2022, this album documents a powerhouse performance by former Megadeth members. Bassist David Ellefson and guitarist Jeff Young (who played on So Far, So Good… So What!) join forces with vocalist/guitarist Chaz Leon and drummer Fred Aching. The night is made even more special by the appearance of another Megadeth alumnus, guitarist Chris Poland (Peace Sells…).
The setlist is a dream for “old school” fans, featuring full album performances of the classic 1985 debut Killing Is My Business…and Business Is Good! and 1988’s So Far, So Good… So What!. It also includes select cuts from Peace Sells… But Who’s Buying?. Tracks like “Wake Up Dead,” “In My Darkest Hour,” and “Mechanix” are delivered with ferocity and precision.
Limited “Gold Wax” Edition
This release is designed for the serious collector:
- Gold Vinyl: The double album is pressed on stunning Gold Wax, fitting for a celebration of the band’s golden era.
- Gatefold Sleeve: The records are housed in a high-quality gatefold sleeve featuring artwork by Fred Aching.
- Hype Sticker: This copy retains the original hype sticker on the shrink wrap, detailing the all-star lineup and the specific albums performed.
It is a high-octane tribute to the early days of one of the “Big Four,” performed by the musicians who helped write that history.
