LA Glam Metal Peak: Ratt’s ‘Invasion Of Your Privacy’ (P-13143)
Today’s entry celebrates the height of the Sunset Strip metal scene with one of its defining albums. We are examining the 1985 Japanese Promo Sample pressing of Invasion Of Your Privacy by Ratt, released on Atlantic Records with the catalog number P-13143.
Sleaze Metal Perfection
Released on July 25, 1985, this album cemented Ratt’s status as global superstars following their breakout debut. Produced by Beau Hill, the record features a tighter, slightly heavier sound that perfectly captures the mid-80s Los Angeles vibe. It spawned massive MTV hits like the anthemic opener “You’re In Love” and the infectious groove of “Lay It Down.” The interplay between guitarists Warren DeMartini and Robbin Crosby is iconic, laying down the blueprint for the melodic yet aggressive style that dominated the decade.
Rare White Label Promo
This specific copy is a highly prized Promo Sample. It features the clean, text-only White Labels on the disc, a hallmark of early promotional copies distributed to industry insiders. The back cover is also marked with a “Sample” sticker, verifying its authenticity as a non-retail unit.
The “Hard Rock Campaign” and Bonus Flexi
What makes this first pressing truly special is its connection to the “Warner Brothers Hard Rock Campaign” of summer 1985. The album includes the specific campaign Obi strip and, most notably, a rare one-sided 7-inch Flexi Disc titled “Hard Rock Quiz.” This unique bonus item challenges listeners to identify snippets of songs by bands like Mötley Crüe, Night Ranger, and AC/DC to win a poster, serving as a fantastic interactive artifact from the era.
Complete Packaging
Manufactured by Warner-Pioneer, the set is incredibly comprehensive. Beyond the flexi, it houses a 4-page English lyric insert, a Japanese picture/text insert with liner notes by Midori Tsukagoshi, and an additional card insert. It is a dense, collector-grade package that captures the excitement of 1985 perfectly.
