Dokken Alumni Reunited: Lynch & Pilson’s ‘Heavy Hitters II’ (CLO 3620)

Today’s entry brings two legends of the 80s hard rock scene back together for another round of classic jams. We are looking at the 2023 limited edition vinyl release of Heavy Hitters II by George Lynch and Jeff Pilson, released on Deadline Music with the catalog number CLO 3620.

A Sequel of Classics

Following the success of their first collaborative covers album, the former Dokken bandmates return to put their unique spin on a diverse range of rock and soul staples. This follow-up collection features the duo tackling iconic tracks such as Peter Gabriel’s “Sledgehammer,” Billy Squier’s “The Stroke,” and The Rolling Stones’ “Jumpin’ Jack Flash.” The album highlights the enduring chemistry between Lynch’s fiery guitar work and Pilson’s multi-instrumental talents as they reinterpret these familiar songs with a hard rock edge. It also includes an original holiday-themed track, “It’s A Wonderful Life,” closing out the set.

Format and Presentation

This release is a visual standout, pressed on a striking Silver and Purple Splatter vinyl that complements the artwork. It is packaged in a high-quality gatefold jacket, with the record housed in a coated white paper inner sleeve. A hype sticker on the shrink wrap confirms this is a limited pressing of the sequel album.
