Exclusive to Japan: Thin Lizzy’s ‘The Japanese Compilation Album’ (RJ-7650)
Today’s entry features a special treat for Phil Lynott fans that was curated specifically for the Far East market. We are looking at the 1980 vinyl release appropriately titled The Japanese Compilation Album by Thin Lizzy, released on Vertigo with the catalog number RJ-7650.
Studio Hits and Live Power
Released on February 25, 1980, this collection offers a perfect split of the band’s dual nature. Side A features polished studio smashes such as “Waiting For An Alibi,” “Jailbreak,” and “Don’t Believe A Word.” Side B flips the script to showcase their legendary stage presence, featuring four blistering live cuts including “Cowboy Song,” “Rosalie,” and the eternal anthem “The Boys Are Back In Town.” It serves as a concise summary of the band’s golden era.
Spaceship Labels and Packaging
Manufactured by Nippon Phonogram, this pressing is a beautiful example of Japanese quality. The record features the classic Vertigo “Spaceship” labels, a design beloved by progressive and hard rock collectors. This copy comes complete with a single-page lyric insert and the distinctive Obi strip, which features Phil Lynott’s name highlighted in red text at the top. The runout matrices are stamped, confirming the precision manufacturing of the Victor Company of Japan.
