Helsinki Vampires on the Sunset Strip: The 69 Eyes ‘Hollywood Kills’ (SRE492LP)
Today’s entry features a live document from the self-proclaimed Helsinki Vampires taking over one of the most famous stages in rock history. We are looking at the 2023 double vinyl release of Hollywood Kills – Live At The Whisky A Go Go by The 69 Eyes, released on Svart Records with the catalog number SRE492LP.
Goth ‘n’ Roll at the Whisky
Recorded at the legendary Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood, this album captures the Finnish goth-rockers in their element. The location is fitting, as the band’s sound has always been a perfect hybrid of Helsinki darkness and Sunset Strip sleaze. The recording immortalizes a specific era of the band’s career, kicked off by an introduction from their longtime friend and collaborator, Bam Margera. It is a high-energy set that showcases why they became global icons of the goth ‘n’ roll genre.
The Music
The setlist is a parade of their most enduring hits. From the opening drive of Devils to the anthemic Lost Boys and the brooding Brandon Lee, the band delivers a performance that balances atmospheric gloom with catchy, glam-rock hooks. Tracks like Gothic Girl and Dance D’Amour highlight Jyrki 69’s deep baritone vocals and the band’s tight musicianship.
Format
This release is presented as a substantial 2-LP set. It allows the full concert experience to breathe across four sides of wax. Collectors will appreciate the inclusion of a bonus track, Nothing On You, located at the end of Side D, adding extra value to this live package.
