A Funk-Infused Retrospective: Bang Tango’s ‘Rock And Roll Est. 1988’ (CLO3536)

Today’s entry looks at a celebration of one of the most unique bands to emerge from the late 80s Sunset Strip scene. We are looking at the 2023 compilation Rock And Roll Est. 1988 by Bang Tango, released on Deadline Music with the catalog number CLO3536.

More Than Just Glam

Formed in Los Angeles in 1987, Bang Tango stood out from their hair metal peers by injecting a heavy dose of funk, soul, and psychedelic influences into their hard rock sound. While they fit the visual aesthetic of the era, their music—best represented by their 1989 debut Psycho Café—offered a sophisticated mixture of genres. This approach allowed them to survive the changing trends of the 90s and maintain a dedicated cult following.

The Music

This career retrospective gathers the band’s most essential tracks on one LP. It naturally features their massive hit Someone Like You, a song that perfectly encapsulates their groove-heavy style. The setlist is packed with fan favorites including Untied And True, Dressed Up Vamp, and Love Injection. It also features their cover of the T. Rex classic Children Of The Revolution, highlighting their glam rock roots.

Format and Design

Presented as a collector’s edition, the visual presentation matches the flair of the music. The album is pressed on a striking Black and Red Splatter vinyl. Comes with Hype sticker on outer shrinkwrap. This 2023 release offers a fresh and colorful way to own these classic L.A. rock anthems.
