Danish Heavy Metal Cult: Randy’s Self-Titled Compilation (NRR 018)
Today’s entry shines a light on a hidden treasure from the Scandinavian metal underground. We are looking at the 2012 vinyl compilation Randy by the Danish band Randy, released on the specialist reissue label No Remorse Records with the catalog number NRR 018.
Danish Dynamite
Randy was a short-lived but highly regarded heavy metal trio from Denmark active in the mid-80s. While they never achieved the global fame of countrymen like Mercyful Fate or Pretty Maids, their limited output has achieved cult status among collectors of traditional heavy metal. This compilation gathers their rare singles and demo tracks onto a full-length LP for the first time, offering a complete overview of their legacy.
The Music
The sound is pure, melodic 80s heavy metal with a distinct “Danish dynamite” flair—catchy hooks, driving rhythms, and strong vocals courtesy of guitarist/singer Jørgen Viftrup Hou. Side A features their most famous track, the anthemic Shadows Are Falling, along with the hard-rocking The Beast. Side B digs deeper into their repertoire with tracks like Victim Of The Night and The Razor’s Edge, showcasing a band that walked the line between commercial hard rock and heavy metal.
Collector’s Details
No Remorse Records is known for high-quality restorations of obscure metal, and this release is no exception.
Format:
This is a Remastered Compilation LP pressed on Black Vinyl. The audio restoration ensures these rare tracks sound punchy and clear.
Limitation:
The release was strictly limited to just 500 copies worldwide.
Packaging:
The album features new cover artwork by Alexander Szczygiel that fits the classic metal aesthetic. It includes an insert containing lyrics, which is a valuable addition given the obscurity of the original releases.
