US Power Metal Veterans: Vicious Rumors’ ‘Razorback Killers’ (SPV 308891)

Today’s entry highlights a crushing return to form by one of the Bay Area’s most enduring power metal institutions. We are looking at the 2011 limited edition vinyl of Razorback Killers by Vicious Rumors, released on the German label Steamhammer with the catalog number SPV 308891 2LP.

Bay Area Ferocity

Released in 2011, this album signaled a fresh era of aggression for the band. Led by founding guitarist and mastermind Geoff Thorpe and long-time drummer Larry Howe, the lineup was bolstered by the addition of vocalist Brian Allen, whose gritty and powerful range fit perfectly with the band’s heavier direction. The album was recorded at Trident Studios in Pacheco, California, ensuring it maintained that authentic US metal punch.

The Music

Razorback Killers is often cited by fans as one of the band’s strongest modern releases, blending their classic melodic sensibilities with thrash metal intensity. The album kicks off with the high-octane opener Murderball and the razor-sharp title track Razorback Blade. Other highlights include the moody, stomping Black and the epic seven-minute closer Deal With The Devil. The twin-guitar attack of Thorpe and Kiyoshi Morgan drives the sound, delivering the shredding solos and complex riffs the band is known for.

Collector’s Details

Steamhammer gave this release a premium treatment suitable for the European collector market.

Format:
This is a Double LP set, allowing the album’s heavy production plenty of room to breathe across four sides. The pressing is on Orange Vinyl, making it a visually striking addition to any collection.
