US Epic Metal Cult: Medieval Steel’s ‘The Anthology Of Steel’ (NRR026-2)
Today’s entry bows before one of the most revered names in the US epic metal underground. We are looking at the 2012 vinyl compilation The Anthology Of Steel by Memphis, Tennessee legends Medieval Steel, released on the Greek label No Remorse Records with the catalog number NRR026-2.
The Ultimate Underground Anthem
Medieval Steel is famous primarily for one song, but what a song it is. The self-titled track “Medieval Steel” (the opener of this collection) is widely considered one of the greatest heavy metal anthems of all time, rivaling Manowar or Omen for pure epic power.
This compilation is the perfect entry point for the band. Side A collects the four tracks from their holy grail 1984 self-titled EP: “Medieval Steel,” “Warlords,” “Battle Beyond The Stars,” and “Echoes.”
But it doesn’t stop there. The collection expands into the band’s later history, featuring recordings from 2005’s The Dungeon Tapes (including “Tears In The Rain” and “Ghost From The Battlefield”) and concludes with a brand new track recorded specifically for this 2012 release, “The Killing Fields.”
Collector’s Details
No Remorse Records, a specialist in preserving obscure metal history, gave this release a treatment worthy of its cult status.
Format: It is a standard LP compilation that gathers the band’s most essential recordings onto vinyl, often for the first time since the 80s for the EP tracks.
Limitation: The pressing was limited to just 500 copies, making it a scarce item for collectors of US power metal.
Extras: The record comes with an inner sleeve packed with lyrics, rare photos, and liner notes. Copies typically feature a hype sticker on the outer shrink wrap.
This anthology is essential for anyone who wants to understand the roots of the American epic metal sound.
