A Melodic Rock Union: Shortino & Northrup’s ‘Afterlife’ on Vinyl (NP84)

Today’s entry spotlights a premium vinyl release for fans of classic melodic hard rock. We are looking at the 2023 limited edition LP “Afterlife” by the powerhouse duo Shortino / Northrup (Paul Shortino and JK Northrup). Released by the Italian label New Platform with the catalog number NP84.

First Time on Vinyl
Originally released on CD, this 2023 edition marks the very first time this collaboration has been available on the vinyl format. It features the soulful, bluesy vocals of Paul Shortino (Rough Cutt, Quiet Riot) paired with the songwriting and multi-instrumental talents of JK Northrup (King Kobra, XYZ), who handles guitars, bass, and production.

AOR Excellence
The album delivers a sophisticated blend of AOR and hard rock, featuring tracks like “Here I Am,” “Crossfire,” and the title track. The production is crisp and melodic, highlighted by guest appearances from Tommy Denander (delivering a guitar solo on “As I Fall”) and vocalist Johnny Edwards (Foreigner, King Kobra).

Collector’s Details
For collectors, NP84 is a highly exclusive item. According to distributor Zamusica, this pressing was strictly limited to just 200 copies on black vinyl. Additionally, this vinyl edition features a different track order than the original CD release, offering a fresh listening experience for longtime fans.

This release is a beautiful physical artifact celebrating the enduring chemistry between two veterans of the 80s rock scene.
