A Darker Shade of Rose: Randy Rose’s ‘Sacrificium’ Reissue (RRV2005)

Today’s entry spotlights a heavy and haunting reissue from the Christian metal scene. We are looking at the 2024 limited edition vinyl release of “Sacrificium” by Randy Rose, issued by Retroactive Records with the catalog number RRV2005.

Originally released in 1991, this album marked a significant departure for Randy Rose, known as the drummer and co-founder of the synth-pop/rock band Mad At The World. Stepping into the spotlight, he delivered a debut solo album characterized by a slow, brooding, and doomy sound that drew heavy comparisons to Danzig, Black Sabbath, and Trouble.

The album features a “sludge” aesthetic with Randy’s vocals channeling a distinct Danzig vibe. Tracks like “Oppression” and “Wicked Ways” are highlights, while “Black Harvest” and “Wall Of Hate” (featuring guitar work by his brother Roger Rose) deliver relentless, Sabbath-inspired riffs.

This 2024 “Metal Icon Series” reissue is a treat for collectors. It was remastered by Rob Colwell and pressed on “Amber Waves” colored heavyweight vinyl. Strictly limited to just 200 copies, it comes packaged with a 12×12 lyric insert featuring band photos and a special write-up from Randy Rose himself. RRV2005 is a definitive presentation of a cult classic for fans of dark, heavy, and doom-laden rock.
