Heavy Atmospheres from the Underground: Torpor’s ‘Abscission’ Roadburn Edition (HW030)
Today’s entry takes us into the crushing depths of the UK sludge and doom metal scene with the album Abscission by Torpor. We are looking at a very specific and highly collectible version released in 2023 on the charitable label Human Worth with the catalog number HW030.
This 12-inch LP is the second pressing of the album, presented on striking Orange and Black Marble vinyl. This specific edition was launched to coincide with the band’s appearance at the prestigious Roadburn Festival, a haven for heavy and experimental music.
Musically, Abscission is a monolithic experience. Produced by Wayne Adams and mastered by James Plotkin, it blends sludge, doom, and noise into massive soundscapes. The album features three epic tracks spanning roughly 9 to 11 minutes—Interior Gestures, As Shadow Follows Body, and Island Of Abandonment—alongside shorter, intense cuts.
