Alice Cooper’s ‘Raise Your Fist And Yell’ (P-13588)
Today’s entry brings us to the late 80s “muscle metal” era of shock rock legend Alice Cooper. We are looking at the 1987 Japanese pressing of Raise Your Fist And Yell, released on MCA Records by Warner-Pioneer with the catalog number P-13588.
Released on November 28, 1987, this album marks the second phase of Cooper’s comeback following Constrictor. It is widely regarded as one of the heaviest and most aggressive albums in his vast discography, fully embracing the slasher-film aesthetic and high-energy heavy metal sound popular at the time.
A major draw for collectors is the formidable backing band featured on this record. It includes the muscular guitarist Kane Roberts, whose heavy riffing and shredding dominate the mix; future heartthrob and star Kip Winger on bass (who also contributes keyboards and writing on the track Gail); and powerhouse drummer Ken K. Mary. Produced by the legendary Michael Wagener, the sound is sharp, loud, and quintessentially 80s metal.
The tracklist is a relentless assault, opening with the anthemic Freedom and the catchy Lock Me Up. Other highlights include the ominous Prince Of Darkness (tied to the John Carpenter film of the same name) and the album’s darker second half, which features the eerie, organ-driven Gail and the frantic speed of Roses On White Lace.
P-13588 is a high-quality Japanese pressing that captures this unique heavy metal chapter of Alice Cooper’s career in pristine fidelity. The release originally came with a 4-page insert featuring lyrics and liner notes.
