A Pictorial Tribute to the Garden State: Bon Jovi’s ‘New Jersey’ Picture Disc (422-836499-1)
Today’s entry highlights a stunning collector’s piece from the height of Bon Jovi’s global dominance. We are looking at the limited edition Picture Disc version of their 1988 blockbuster album, New Jersey. Released in the US on the Mercury label, this LP carries the specific catalog number 422-836499-1.
Coming off the heels of the massive Slippery When Wet, New Jersey proved the band was here to stay. It cemented their superstar status and famously became the first album to spawn five Top 10 singles on the US Billboard Hot 100.
The album is an anthem factory, featuring the stadium-shaking Lay Your Hands On Me, the chart-topping Bad Medicine, the driving Born To Be My Baby, the working-class anthem Blood On Blood, and the definitive power ballad I’ll Be There For You.
Produced by Bruce Fairbairn and engineered/mixed by Bob Rock at Little Mountain Sound, the album features a massive, polished sound that defined late 80s arena rock. While the standard black vinyl is common, this limited picture disc edition allows fans to see the band’s iconic imagery spinning on the turntable.
422-836499-1 is a visually spectacular item for collectors, turning this classic album into a display piece that captures the denim-and-leather aesthetic of the era.
