A Rare Gem from the Atomik Era: UFO’s ’Ain’t Misbehavin’’ (CLO 5545)
Today’s entry spotlights a 2024 limited edition reissue from the British hard rock legends UFO. We are looking at the EP “Ain’t Misbehavin’,” released in the US by Cleopatra Records with the catalog number CLO 5545.
This release is a “Deluxe Bonus Track Edition” of a somewhat obscure EP originally issued in 1988. It documents a specific era of the band following their 1985 album “Misdemeanor” and the subsequent explosive 1987 tour. The lineup features eternal frontman Phil Mogg backed by bassist Paul Gray, drummer Jim Simpson, and notably, the Japanese-born guitarist Atomik Tommy M.
Musically, this EP is often cited by fans as a return to a more guitar-oriented sound compared to the keyboard-heavy production of “Misdemeanor.” Tracks like “Between A Rock & A Hard Place” and “Hunger In The Night” showcase a sharper edge and upbeat rock energy, allowing Mogg’s signature vocals to shine in a more traditional hard rock setting.
This 2024 pressing is a true collector’s item, pressed on white vinyl and strictly limited to just 250 copies. It expands upon the original tracklist by including two vintage live recordings from Milwaukee in 1986: the classics “Only You Can Rock Me” and “Doctor Doctor.”
CLO 5545 offers a fresh look at a transitional but high-energy period in UFO’s history. It serves as a tribute to the collaboration between Mogg and Atomik Tommy M, packaged in a rare and collectible format.
Would you like me to search for the original 1988 release or the “Misdemeanor” album?
