A Deeper Groove: Reaction’s ‘True Imitation’ (VIH-28290)
Continuing our exploration of Japanese heavy metal band Reaction, let’s focus on their third studio album, “True Imitation.” Released in 1987 on the Invitation label (Victor), this 12-inch vinyl LP carries the catalog number VIH-28290. This copy retains its original obisticker on the cover.
Following the aggressive assault of “Agitator,” “True Imitation” found Reaction further developing their musicality. While retaining the core heavy metal power and distinctive vocals they were known for, this album showcased a greater sense of groove and more intricate songwriting. It represents a maturation, blending their raw energy with catchier elements and potentially more complex arrangements, possibly including experiments with time signatures, aimed at reaching a broader audience while still satisfying their existing fanbase.
The album delivers powerful, riff-driven heavy metal across its tracks, including standouts like “Let It Rock,” “Everybody’s Crazy,” and “Bad Boy’s Toy.” It emphasizes the band’s ability to craft compelling heavy music that balanced aggression with memorable melodies, proving they were more than just pure speed and power.
VIH-28290 captures Reaction refining their sound and showcasing their ambition. “True Imitation” stands as an important release demonstrating the band’s evolution and their unique position within the late 80s J-Metal landscape.
