Spotlighting a Special Mix: Make-Up’s ‘Find Out’ 12-Inch (AY-7402)

Let’s explore a special release from the Japanese heavy metal band Make-Up, focusing on their 12-inch maxi-single for the track “Find Out.” Released on June 21, 1985, via the Columbia label (Nippon Columbia), this vinyl carries the catalog number AY-7402.

This 45 RPM 12-inch maxi-single offered fans an enhanced presentation of key tracks, a popular format during the mid-80s often featuring remixes or superior sound quality. Produced by Make-Up themselves and engineered by Masahiro “Mick” Terada, the single highlights the band’s polished and powerful melodic hard rock sound.

The release features three distinct versions/tracks:
A1: Find Out (Remixed Long Version)
B1: She Lied (Clear-Cut)
B2: Find Out

The A-side is dedicated to an extended remix of the title track, offering a different perspective on the song. The B-side includes the track “She Lied” (subtitled “Clear-Cut”) and the standard version of “Find Out,” providing context or completeness. These tracks showcase the band’s signature style: soaring vocals from Nobuo Yamada (later famous for Saint Seiya themes), skillful guitar work, prominent keyboards, and a tight rhythm section.

AY-7402 serves as an excellent companion piece to Make-Up’s albums from the era. For fans and collectors, this 12-inch maxi-single provides a high-quality snapshot of the band’s melodic hard rock prowess, complete with an exclusive remix.
