Rocking with Refreshment: Show-Ya’s ‘Suteki ni Dancing’ 12-Inch (T12-1090)

Let’s look at an early single release from the pioneering all-female Japanese hard rock band, Show-Ya. This is their 12-inch single, “Suteki ni Dancing,” carrying the catalog number T12-1090. This specific copy retains its original outer shrinkwrap with the obisticker intact.

Issued on August 31, 1985, by the Eastworld label (Toshiba EMI), this 45 RPM 12-inch vinyl arrived during the band’s debut year, coinciding with their first album, “Masquerade Show.” Singles like this were crucial for building their profile and showcasing their powerful sound.

This release features two tracks:

A: Suteki ni Dancing (Coke is it!) B: Au Revoir

The title track holds particular significance as it was prominently featured in a Coca-Cola commercial campaign in Japan during 1985 (“Coke is it!”), providing the band with considerable mainstream exposure early in their career. The song was composed and arranged by the renowned Akira Inoue, with lyrics by Machiko Ryu, giving it a polished, catchy pop-rock feel fused with the band’s inherent hard rock energy. The B-side, “Au Revoir,” composed by keyboardist Miki Nakamura and arranged by the band, likely showcases their more typical hard rock style.

T12-1090 is an important early release for Show-Ya, representing not only their musical style at the time but also a significant commercial breakthrough via the Coca-Cola campaign. The intact original packaging makes this copy especially desirable for collectors documenting the early steps of one of Japan’s most successful female rock bands.
