Let’s examine a pivotal album from Japanese hard rock legends Earthshaker, their fourth studio LP, “Passion.” Released on September 18, 1985, via the Nexus label (King Records), this 12-inch vinyl (catalog number K28P-567) captures the band at the absolute height of their popularity.
This album marked a significant step for the band as their first self-produced effort (though still supervised by Masa Itoh). Reflecting their top-tier status, “Passion” was recorded in Los Angeles at renowned studios like The Village Recorder, with engineer Jim Faraci helping to capture a polished, international sound.
“Passion” showcases the band’s signature melodic hard rock style, refined with a polished L.A. production. It features a strong collection of nine tracks, including fan favorites like “Come On” and “Whisky And Woman.” Most notably, the album closes with their iconic and beloved ballad “Arigato Kimini,” a song that became an essential part of their legacy.
K28P-567 is a high-quality document of Earthshaker’s peak commercial era, released just before their first triumphant Budokan concert. The original release came complete with a gatefold insert featuring band pictures and lyrics.
