A landmark release from Japan’s “modern heavy” scene is the focus today: the debut album from Suns Owl, “Screaming The Five Senses.” Released in August 1998 on the Blood In, Blood Out label, this 12-inch vinyl LP (catalog number BIBO-0008) is a testament to raw, underground power.
This 9-track album was famously recorded in an incredibly short span of just 10 days. It perfectly captures the band’s unique interpretation of metal, blending the intensity of thrash, hardcore, and grindcore with powerful, metallic grooves and sharp, edgy guitar work.
“Screaming The Five Senses” kicks off with their most iconic and enduring song, “Death Mosh Highway,” a track that became a signature anthem and a staple of their live performances.
As the debut album from a band that would become a legendary force in the scene, BIBO-0008 is an essential document. It preserves the raw, unpolished, and powerful sound of Suns Owl right at the beginning of their influential career.
