Defining the Sound: Earthshaker’s Sophomore Triumph ‘FUGITIVE’ (K28P-432)
Today we revisit the essential second studio album from Japanese hard rock icons Earthshaker, titled “FUGITIVE” (逃亡者). This entry focuses on the 12-inch vinyl LP released on the Nexus label (King Records) with the catalog number K28P-432.
Hitting record stores in March 1984, “FUGITIVE” arrived with impressive speed, following their self-titled debut by less than a year. This album proved Earthshaker was not just a promising newcomer but a band rapidly defining its powerful musical identity. While the debut showcased their raw energy, “FUGITIVE” is where their signature blend of hard rock muscle and deeply emotional, “crying” melodies truly came into sharp focus.
The album offers a potent collection of tracks that perfectly balance heavy, driving riffs and intricate guitar solos with soaring, memorable vocal lines and anthemic choruses. It demonstrated the band’s exceptional songwriting craft and instrumental prowess, setting a high standard for melodic heavy metal in Japan. “FUGITIVE” solidified the sound that would make Earthshaker beloved figures in the J-Metal scene.
K28P-432 remains a landmark release, capturing a band hitting an early creative peak and delivering an album packed with the essential elements of classic 80s Japanese melodic hard rock. It’s a cornerstone of their discography and a must-have for fans of the genre.
