A new generation guitar hero’s debut is the focus for this entry: “The Right Brain Revolution,” the first solo album from Katsu Ohta. Released in November 2000 on the Mandrake Root Records label (catalog number 30MR・CD・028), this CD showcased the incredible talents of the Japanese guitarist.
Hailed by the Mandrake Root label as a guitar hero for the 21st century, Ohta’s debut is a powerful showcase of his compositional and playing skills. The album, produced and arranged by Ohta himself, consists primarily of high-energy, technical heavy metal instrumentals, such as the title track (presented in two parts, including a “guitar minus one” bonus version), “Time To Burn,” and “Eye Of The Hurricane.”
The 9-track album also features two significant guest vocal appearances from the legendary Eizo Sakamoto (ex-Anthem), who lends his powerful voice to the tracks “Eyes Of The Free Will” and “Brainless Traitor.” The album’s sound is rounded out by keyboards and programming from Yusuke Takahama(ex.precious).
“The Right Brain Revolution” (30MR・CD・028) stands as a powerful opening statement from a highly skilled guitarist, making it an essential listen for fans of Japanese heavy metal and virtuosic guitar work. The original 2000 release included a booklet with lyrics and translation.
