A significant solo debut from one of Japanese rock’s most legendary voices is the focus for this entry. We are looking at “Made In Heaven,” the first solo album from Toshi of X Japan. Released on November 21, 1992, this CD (catalog number BVCR-114) was issued on the BMG / Ariola label.
Produced by Toshi himself and co-produced by Akira Inoue, “Made In Heaven” offered Toshi a chance to explore musical styles outside the heavy metal framework of X Japan. The 9-track album (plus introduction and prelude) delves into polished pop-rock, featuring melodic songs like the title track, “Welcome To My Destiny,” and “One Love.”
The album is renowned for its incredible lineup of world-class session musicians. It features the legendary Simon Phillips on drums for most of the album, alongside guitar work from international session ace Michael Landau and top Japanese players like Tsuyoshi Kon and Takayuki Hijikata.
Adding to its appeal for fans, the track “Somebody Loves You” also features guest appearances from Toshi’s X Japan bandmates, hide and Pata, with Kohnosuke Sakazaki contributing acoustic guitar elsewhere. “Made In Heaven” (BVCR-114) stands as a major release, showcasing Toshi’s talents as a pop/rock songwriter and vocalist, supported by an all-star international and domestic cast of musicians.
