A Long-Awaited Return: Y&T’s ‘Facemelter’ (KICP 1480)

Today’s entry spotlights a significant comeback from the American hard rock legends Y&T. We are looking at their 2010 studio album, “Facemelter,” released in Japan on the Metal Frontier label (King Records) with the catalog number KICP 1480. This particular copy includes the original obi strip.

Released on June 23, 2010, “Facemelter” was a major event for fans, marking the band’s first studio album of new material in 13 years, following 1997’s “Endangered Species.” Despite the long gap, the album proves that Dave Meniketti (vocals/guitar) and his band hadn’t lost a step.

The album opens with a prelude leading into the catchy mid-tempo rocker “On With The Show,” evoking memories of their classic “Black Tiger” era. It delivers a mix of aggressive and emotional tracks that define the Y&T sound. Highlights include the speedy “Blind Patriot,” the heartfelt ballad “If You Want Me,” and the bluesy, emotional “I’m Coming Home,” which many fans cite as the album’s best track. Meniketti’s powerful vocals and signature guitar work—blending shred with deep emotion—remain as compelling as ever.

As is customary with King Records releases, this Japanese edition offers exclusive value to collectors. It includes the bonus track “Deadly Deceiver,” a high-quality song that many fans argue fits perfectly with the main album. KICP 1480 is a fantastic document of a veteran band returning to the studio with passion and power, offering a satisfying experience for both longtime followers and new listeners.
