A Decade of Melodic Rock: Last Autumn’s Dream’s ‘Ten Tangerine Tales’ (MICP-11070)
Today’s entry spotlights a milestone release from the prolific Swedish melodic rock band, Last Autumn’s Dream. We are looking at their tenth studio album, “Ten Tangerine Tales,” released in Japan on December 19, 2012, via the Avalon label (Marquee Inc.) with the catalog number MICP-11070. This particular copy includes the original obi strip.
By the time of this release, a new album from Last Autumn’s Dream had become a cherished “winter tradition” for Japanese fans, with the band impressively delivering ten albums in ten years. “Ten Tangerine Tales” continues the stylistic shift observed in their previous work, Nine Lives. While the band made their name on “crying,” melancholic melodies, this album leans towards a brighter, more positive, and up-tempo hard rock sound.
Despite the shift in mood, the quality remains undeniably high. Mikael Erlandsson’s soulful vocals are as captivating as ever, anchoring a collection of catchy, well-crafted songs. Highlights include the infectious title track, the driving “Pickin’ Up The Pieces,” and the beautiful, acoustic-tinged “Lie To My Heart.” The ballad “I Will See You Thru” is also frequently cited by fans as a tear-jerker that proves their melodic mastery is still intact.
As is customary with Avalon releases, this Japanese edition offers exclusive value to collectors. It includes the bonus track “Rebel Rouser,” bringing the total track count to twelve. MICP-11070 is a testament to the band’s incredible consistency and their ability to evolve while maintaining the high standards of Scandinavian melodic rock.
